1. Is there a division for me?
There are divisions for all ages and all skill levels. GI divisions are divided up by age, weight and belt. No GI divisions are divided by age, weight and experience. Please check the registration form for the tournament you are interested in for more details.
2. Are Lutador events single or double elimination?
Lutador events are single elimination up till the semi-finals. The winners of the semi-finals go on and compete for 1st place, the losers compete for 3rd place.
3. Do I need to be a member of a team to compete?
Absolutely not. In fact, about 25% of our fighters are unaffiliated. Lutador events are open to all styles: Wrestling, Judo, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Japanese Jujitsu, Sambo, Jeet Kune Do, etc. There are no restrictions on what form of grappling you practice. We have divisions for children and adults of all ages and of all skill levels, in both gi and no-gi competition.
4. What forms of payment will Lutador accept?
Pre-Registration via the Lutador web site accepts credit and debit card. The day of the event we accept cash only. Checks are not accepted the day of the event. Please note that in order to get the Pre-Registration discount, you must register via the Lutador web site.
5. What happens if I pre-register but unable to compete?
If a competitor gets injured or has an issue where they cannot compete, their entry fee is not forfeited. We offer that competitor the option of using the unused registration towards a future Lutador event. The fee can be put towards any event and does not expire. You will need to contact the Lutador Grappling to notify them of you not competing so the necessary paperwork can be completed.
6. If I weigh-in the night before do I have to weigh-in again?
Once you weigh-in and approve your weight, it will be documented on your registration card and you are all set.
7. If I cannot make the weight I've selected on the registration form, Can I still compete?
Yes, you will be automatically bumped up to the next weight division.
8. Registration: Pre-Register or at the Door?
All competitors must register. This can be done at the door the morning of, the night before the event, or you can pre-register via the Lutador web site. All pre-registered competitors get a discounted rate and use of a special expedited line at the door. Athletes choosing to register at the door on event day do not get the discounted rate and will have a longer wait due to the time necessary to process paper work. Note: registering the night before does not get you a the discounted rate.
9. What happens when my division is called?
When your division is called, you will proceed to the bull-pen area. The bull-pen coordinator will call the first two fighters out and they will be escorted to the designated mat. When you win, go to the scoring table for that mat and to ensure that you are properly advanced to the next round. The winning competitor will take a seat behind the scoring table for that mat and wait to be called back to fight again. This process continues until there is a single winner!.
